SWEET victory for Doughnut Plant | NYCWFF 2011
Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 12:10 PM - Posted by Megan - (0) commentsTime for sweet seduction at one of the NYC Wine & Food Festival’s most thrilling events. So what if I just stuffed face at Burger Bash? This girl has never met a dessert that she didn’t have room for. Bring on Godiva SWEET, a treats-celebrating evening extravaganza hosted by Food Network’s Sandra Lee.
The sprawling space at 82 Mercer was filled with tables upon tables of decadent desserts and confections from renowned NYC restaurants and celebrated pastry chefs. Perrier-Jouët flowed freely as the sugar-obsessed crowd sampled delicacies to satisfy every type of sweet tooth—from chocolates, cookies and cupcakes, to pies, pops and pralines.
Seasonal flavors shined in The Stanton Social’s spiced panna cotta with POM gelée, Locanda Verde’s cranberry spice cake with mascarpone gelato, and Gotham Bar and Grill’s cinnamon cheesecake with port-roasted figs—hands down one of the night’s best. Other favorites included crispy Godiva chocolate praline pops from Jean Georges pastry maven Johnny Iuzzini, sticky toffee pudding with bourbon custard from The Harrison, and Park Avenue Autumn’s aged goat cheese mousse with caramelized apples.
At the end of this ambrosial affair, Doughnut Plant was named the Godiva fan favorite for their doughy crème brûlée and peanut butter & jelly buns. Friday’s fifth annual SWEET left me in a sugar-filled state of bliss, and knowing that event proceeds will benefit Food Bank for NYC and Share Our Strength was just icing on the cake.
Until we sweet again…
