SoBe BubbleQ 2011

Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 01:02 PM - Posted by Megan - (0) comments

Under a moonlit sky behind SoBe’s elegant Delano hotel, grillmaster Bobbly Flay played host at Friday’s 10th annual BubbleQ—one of the Festival’s biggest signature events. During the sexy evening soiree, a lively crowd of partygoers enjoyed free flowing Perrier-Jouët Champagne and gourmet bites from barbecue’s best.

An elegant open-air atmosphere graced guests under the BubbleQ tent

Dozens of BBQ gurus, including host Bobbly Flay himself, along with Rick Bayless, Cat Cora, Todd English, the Allen Brothers, Adam Perry Lang, Marc Vetri, Michael Symon and others, were dishing up their succulent ‘cue—everything from smoky pulled pork sandwiches to saucy shanks, steaks and fall-off-the-bone ribs. Having a selection of this caliber drew really long food lines—the event’s only drawback—but with a flute of bubbly in hand and a rockin’ live band on stage, the waits seemed to fly by. The night was capped off in the Godiva Lounge, which displayed a decadent array of desserts created by Godiva Chocolatier David Funaro. Hmm…Champagne, BBQ and chocolate—does it get any better than this!?

Big Apple BBQ Block Party

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 08:06 AM - Posted by Megan - (0) comments

Talk about hog heaven! This weekend, I attended one of my favorite NYC food celebrations—the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party at Madison Square Park. Every June, the country’s top pitmasters and meat mavens come together to cook up their authentic and award-winning BBQ delicacies. Everything from ribs, pulled pork, whole hog and sausage was smoked, sauced and served to thousands of hog-hungry patrons. This year’s finger lickin’ good festivities paid tribute to regional BBQ styles from across the nation and proceeds supported the Madison Square Park Conservancy—so you can feel good about chowing down for a cause. The 4th BBQ festival I’ve attended so far this year (clearly, I’m a fan) did not disappoint and I left feeling stuffed like a pig.

Food highlights: Whole hog sandwich from The Pit (Raleigh, NC), Pulled pork shoulder from Udon’s Barbecue of Yazoo (Yazoo City, MS), Beef brisket from Hill Country (NYC), St.Louis-style ribs from Baker’s Ribs (Dallas, TX), and Homemade smoked sausage from Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q (Birmingham, AL).
