We can all use a little spring cleaning in the kitchen. And no, I’m not talking about organizing your pantry, but incorporating clean eating as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Nutritional Consultant and Clean Plates founder, Jared Koch, makes it easy with his newly released, The Clean Plates Cookbook, which continues his mission to educate people on how it can drastically pay off to eat cleanly. “Clean eating, as I define it, means eating high-quality real food as often as possible, based on what is right for your body and what stimulates your taste buds.” Jared shares. “In other words: healthy, sustainable, and delicious.”

This cookbook is particularly near and dear to my heart because I was honored to contribute to it and work with celebrated participating chefs including Jamie Oliver, Marc Forgione, Michael Anthony, Bill Telepan, Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow, Sarma Melngailis, Ed Cotton, Jeremy Bearman, Ann Gentry, and more. It’s a truly incredible resource packed with tons of inspiring information and simple, healthy, delicious recipes—from meat- and seafood-based dishes to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. There’s really something for every body and every palate. Here’s a taste of some the recipes you’ll discover.

Going Mad for Meatballs at NYCWFF 2012

Thursday night, the 5th annual New York City Wine and Food Festival kicked off with two of the weekend’s most anticipated events. And though I would’ve loved to witness food royalty roast Anthony Bourdain, the Italian in me couldn’t bear the thought of missing one of my favorites—Meatball Madness hosted by the lovely Giada De Laurentiis. “This is the best Meatball Madness ever,” Giada exclaimed about the ‘always sold out’ event, which is in its fourth consecutive year.

The large-scale tasting showcased dozens of the city’s best chefs, who rolled out their version of the perfect bite. Hundreds of meatball maniacs packed into SoHo’s 82 Mercer to sample 36 different types of saucy spheres—in styles ranging from traditional Italian polpette with tomato gravy to pretzel-stuffed Austrian balls and Spanish oxtail albondigas.

Judges Alex GuarnaschelliGeoffrey Zakarian and Anne Burrell, along with Pat LaFrieda and Mark Pastore of sponsor La Frieda Meats, crowned Gabe Thompson of the soon-to-open L’Apicio the night’s big winner for his Amatriciana version. The carnivorous crowd also casted their votes and Donatella Arpaia snagged the coveted People’s Choice Award for her mother’s classic recipe of melt-in-your-mouth tomato braised veal meatballs.

Aperol Spritz cocktails, a selection of vino and sparkling San Pellegrino refreshed partygoers, while a display of cake pops from pastry hotshot Johnny Iuzzini provided some sweet relief. Meatball Madness started off the NYCWFF in delicious fashion and everyone seemed to have a ball—while devouring dozens!

Inside the 2012 LUCKYRICE Grand Feast

Wasabi macarons, edamame dumplings, pig’s blood popsicles. These were just a few of the impressive Asian-inspired delicacies sampled at the LUCKYRICE Grand Feast on Friday night. Held at the Mandarin Oriental’s majestic 36th-floor ballroom, this epic celebration drew top chefs from around the globe, including Masaharu Morimoto, Michael Anthony, Ming Tsai, Todd English, Ian Kittichai, Susur Lee and many others from who presented unique interpretations of Asian cuisine.

  2. Chef Michael Anthony\'s snapper with dashi and trout roe, topped with arugula flowers
  3.  Asian food lovers feasted their way through the Mandarin Oriental’s 36th-floor ballroom
  4. Suntory\'s Gardner Dunn impressed with his speedy ice carving skills
  5. Suntory’s smooth aged Japanese whiskies —Yamazaki, Hakushu & Hibiki
  6. Crispy Chinese sausage rice cakes with broken chili sauce from The Hurricane Club
  7. Masaharu Morimoto had a laugh with guests as he served succulent spicy king crab
  8. Chef Aliya Leekong of Junoon prepared lotus root three ways and a creamy rhubarb lassi
  9. Chef Susur Lee and his team offered bites of tasty Hong Kong shrimp taro toast
  10. Chef Adam Woodfield\'s chicken betel leaf with roasted shallot chili and eggplant relish

Packed into the grandiose space, guests sipped and sampled their way through Asia’s diverse cultures without ever leaving NYC. Participating restaurants included Betel, Buddakan, Ember Room, Gramercy Tavern, The Hurricane Club, Junoon, Morimoto, Public, Perry St and Tulsi. To wash down all the flavorful bites, there was also a slew of beverage options, from smooth Suntory whiskies and Singha beer to Bombay Sapphire cocktails and scads of sake. And with all event proceeds benefiting City Harvest, what better reason to pick up some chopsticks and chow down?
