Celebrate L’Amour

Monday, February 7, 2011 at 01:02 PM - Posted by Megan - (0) comments

Last summer, I began exploring Alsatian wines and have really developed an appreciation for the varietals harvested in that particular region of France. Alsace is a small wine-producing province on the country’s Eastern coast that’s renowned for an array of versatile whites, such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc.

Recently, a 2008 Hugel et Fils Pinot Blanc “Cuvée Les Amours” from Alsace found its way into my wine glass—much to my delight. The name alone conjures up brilliant images of falling in love in Gay Paree, and the wine’s delicate fruit-forward flavor immediately stole my heart. Turns out, this special Pinot Blanc was given its French moniker decades ago because of how love-ly it was to drink.

With Valentine’s Day—the ultimate celebration of l’amour—on the horizon, there’s no better time to gush about my new wine crush. Cuvée Les Amours is made of 100% Pinot Blanc and shows notes of citrus, stone fruits and bright green apple. Both refreshing and dry to the palate, this well-built wine boasts a crisp, smooth flavor with subtle minerality, balanced acidity and a soft, rounded finish.
